Comic books, video games, action figures, and themed conventions; some say there's never been a better time to be a nerd.

TBS's newest reality series called "King Of The Nerds" features a house full of brainiacs competing for the ultimate nerd crown. Eyewitness News reporter Rachel Polansky visits with one of the contestants who lives right here in Central New York.

Danielle Mackey is a professional YouTuber. And with over 150,000 subscribers, she works full-time hosting a YouTube show discussing video games like her personal favorite, World Of Warcraft. And Danielle says being called a "nerd" is a compliment.

"I was looking up stuff on YouTube one day and realized there was this niche that hadn't been filled and I was like I could do that and then 4 years later, I have 150,000 subscribers," says Danielle Mackey, professional YouTuber and "King of the Nerds" contestant.

Danielle's shows focuses on World of Warcraft and League of Legends, but she says getting to this level wasn't easy.

"Being a female in the gaming world; I mean people want you to prove that you're a gamer, prove that you're a nerd and its funny because I refuse too," says Danielle.

"I spend like 40-50 hours a week playing video games, got about 5800 hours invested into World of Warcraft," says Danielle

But she didn't always know she wanted to be a professional gamer..

"I dual majored in biology and chemistry in college and I was in the top 10 percent of my class," says Danielle

But at the end of the day, she found that gaming made her the happiest.

"I was averaging 1 million views a months. At that point, I was making as much money as my full-time job; I mean they say if you like what you do, you're not really working, so I saw the opportunity and I seized it," says Danielle

And she says when it comes to modern gaming, there really is a game for everyone.

"You just have to look for it. And you'd be surprised what a therapeutic experience it can be to find that game that you can really escape reality for just a few minutes and just relax, hang out, and have a good time," says Danielle.

Will Central New York be the home to "the queen of the nerds"? You can watch Danielle and the rest of the gang Thursday nights at 10pm on TBS to find out.
