A critical sewer line running from the Marcy Nanocenter to the sewage treatment plant was discussed by Utica's Common Council tonight. The project involves the construction of an interceptor sewer running along the City of Utica. The council did approvethe resolution to go forward with the project. According to one official, this project would upgrade existing sewer lines. But tonight's vote was crucial to get a permit from the department of environmental conservation.

Steve DiMeo of Mohawk Valley Edge says, "It's part of the things you want to do in advance, so, we know what they requirements are of the industry, we know what the plans are with the college of nanoscale science and engineering and the Quad C project. So, this is a necessary part of that."

Officials say they hope the project will be underway sometime this year.
