We've all heard the saying "walk a mile in my shoes" and tomorrow morning some people are doing just that.
The Rescue Mission of Utica is raising awareness of the everyday struggles faced by the homeless and hungry through its winter fundraiser, "Walk A Mile In My Shoes." Participants will begin the walk at Utica City Hall, walk to the rescue mission campus and return to the Westminster Presbyterian Church for some activities, and an awards ceremony.
"This is a way the people in the community can say we are here to support you and help you get back on your feet. We're gonna be able to really understand what its like to be out in the elements in the winter time for someone who doesn't have any where to go," says Rev. Bill Dodge, executive director of the Utica Rescue Mission.
"Walk A Mile" kicks off at 11am tomorrow morning at Utica City Hall, and coordinators encourage everyone in the community to attend. Plus, you'll see some familiar faces; the WUTR news team will be walking the mile, as well.
