"If you eat more than you expend then you're going to gain weight. If you eat less than you expend then you're going to lose" says Renal Dietitian Marjorie Naples.
Seems simple, right? In theory sure, but reality is a totally different monster... Part of a obtaining a healthy lifestyle starts with metabolism. Experts say raising your metabolic rate is a two pronged approach...First it starts with a good diet.
Naples says, "As far as diet, just pick one change and do that for a couple of weeks until it becomes habit. And then instill another healthier habit once that one is in place."
The second factor is daily activity and the pros say there are 3 main ways to achieve this. Certified Personal Trainer John Bulawa says, "Cardiovascular would be one of them, strength training would be a second and then obviously good nutrition. Muscle is 90% water so we have to keep very hydrated while we do that."
But don't fear... Both Marjorie and John say you can start small and work your way up. Naples added, "Even just incorporating small steps throughout your day, don't use the elevator use the stairs so starting slower." Bulawa says, "Intermitted training is what it would be called, just doing small boughts of exercise, burn some calories here burn some calories there that will keep you metabolism up in the long run."
