Kennedy Plaza Apt. Residents Sign Petition To Move Polling Places Back

As we reported on Election Day, some disabled and elderly voters were
unhappy with the change of polling places. The Kennedy Plaza Apartments
polling station in Utica was moved to City Hall and some residents said
they couldn't physically get to the new polling place.
Some residents spoke at the Common Council meeting last night - and nearly 150 apartment residents signed a petition asking the council to move the polling place back to the apartments. And some council members say these changes hurt more than just the residents.
"City hall is closed on that day and in order to accomodate voting, we have to open up, heat the building, and put on 2 shifts from 5 in the morning until 10 at night, we are strapped for money. This is not financially a responsible thing to do," says Frank Vescera, Utica Councilman.
The council did not formally act on the petition last night. But some councilmen say they hope to address residents' concerns the first Wednesday in December.
