"I don't know. We'll see," he told reporters at his first press conference since suffering a concussion a week and a half ago.
The Bears stance has been to play it cautious with Cutler. And Cutler says that although he wants to play Sunday, he's comfortable putting that decision in the hands of medical personnel.
"You trust the doctors and the training staff that they're going to make the right decision for my health, not only for the near future, but my lifetime going forward," says Cutler.
On the positive side Cutler was cleared to practice Wednesday. That's part of the evaluation process seeing how he holds up under physical stress and whether or not any lingering effects of a concussion show up.
"Before he can play he has to be cleared by an independent neurologist, and we're not at that point," says Bears Coach Lovie Smith. "It's about practicing right now, and he is good to go for practice on a limited basis."
"I've got to see more doctors," says Cutler in describing the process he has to go through to play again. "You've got to go on the field and make sure you can exert yourself. Really it's just a personal thing making sure you feel OK."
So Jason Campbell
could get another start this week. The
Bears aren't knocking him for what happened in
"He just didn't have a chance," says receiver Brandon Marshall. "When you look at the film I think you guys all seen it. That was hard to watch seeing him get hit like that, but he's still a starting quarterback in a backup role, and if he's there and he's leading us on Sunday, I'm confident that we'll get the job done."
