Trouble In The Backfield

By: Alyssa Orange
Updated: October 17, 2012

The Cowboys will be without Running Back DeMarco Murray this weekend against the Carolina Panthers, but that's not the only injuries the Cowboys are dealing with, nor is Murray the only player you wont see on the field.

Both corner backs Mike Jenkins and Morris Claiborne have underwent MRIs this week. Claiborne's MRI focused on his knee, Jenkins on is his shoulder.

The possibility of both Jenkins and Claiborne being out could be bad news for a Cowboys defense that is struggling already, and leaving Orlando Scandrick and Brandon Carr all alone in the corner position.

There is some good news, though that might depend on how you define "good." Both of the injuries are not serious, and could keep them off the field only a matter of a week or two. However, these injuries are not ones that are going to go away overnight. Jenkins has been having trouble with his shoulder since January, and Claiborne was struggling with his knee even before he was drafted.

Is the answer to start focusing on drafting or trading for a Corner? Not necessarily (though its not far back there.)

Right now, the biggest thing the Cowboys have to focus on is making sure they can shut down Cam Newton and the Panthers offense as much as they can, and not let them beat them downfield.

If they can get through this week and get Jenkins and Claiborne back on the field as soon as possible, things could still be looking up. If not, well then we can refer back to the question asked  two paragraphs above.
