Several community members gathered to celebrate a former Utica leader this afternoon. Over 100 residents took part in th e4th Annual James Blackshear Memorial Prayer Luncheon. Eyewitness News spoke with Mr. Blackshear's sister, who remembers him fondly.

"He was the director of the Cosmopolitan Center and it was open to children and even now today, I still hear some of the kids saying how much they miss him because he encouraged them. It's just a blessing to remember somebody that has done so much for the community," says Bernice Blackshear-Brown, Blackshear's sister.

And all the funds raised at the event will help Hope Chapel and the Kiwanis Club keep Mr. Blackshear's spirit alive, while supporting the chapel he attended for over 40 years.
