Ice Jam Aftermath: Some Sylvan Beach residents left with damage

A broken garage, soggy carpets, and a neighbors garbage lid.

Those are just some of the things that Sylvan Beach resident, Brandon Karpp is left with after Thursday's flooding.

"There was actually white caps in the road, and that's when I knew it was time to go," said Karpp.

A large ice jam in the Fish Creek forced Brandon and others living near the area in Sylvan Beach to evacuate their homes.

"The fire department was all suited up in their life gear to get people on rafts if they had to," said Karpp.

The jam caused water to rise several feet over roadways flooding the area.

After several hours, the water eventually receded that evening, allowing people to return home.

On Friday it appeared there wasn't too much water left over on the surface, but Eyewitness News decided to take a closer look.

"There's probably six to ten inches of ice underneath some of the property here," said Brandon

And while Karpp's glad to be home, he says it's going to take time getting everything back to normal.
