VERONA —
Oneida Indian Nation Representative and Chief Executive Officer Ray Halbritter Monday evening pledged to bring 1,000 jobs to the area if a proposed agreement with Oneida County is passed. The Nation has been in contact with at least two companies — a boat manufacturer and one in the energy sector — that are looking at the possibility of locating in Oneida County, Halbritter said. The jobs also would come from an expansion of Nation enterprises, officials said. The announcement, which came during a public hearing at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Senior High School, was followed by a mix of criticism and praise from residents and officials about the $55 million plan that addresses land and tax issues. More than 200 people attended. |
