One area medical center is trying to help those suffering from laryngectomy. St. Elizabeth Medical Center holds support groups the second Thursday of every month. Laryngectomy is the procedure to remove a person's larynx to separate the airway. The group is a place where people can share ideas. Speech Pathologist Gordon Reitema says, "We consider this group to be important because they consider this group to be important. They need to get together and share ideas, they have common problems there are problems that go along with being laryngetimized but there's a finite number of them and what's going on, what's happening in research, what's happening in your personal experience."
If you have question about the meetings contact the Speech Therapy Department at 734-3475.
