Frankfort-Schuyler moving forward with next school year's budget

Many have heard about a possible three district merger with Mohawk, Ilion, and Herkimer School Districts.
And Tuesday night, Frankfort-Schuyler, the only district to vote against a possible four district merger, is working on next year's budgets, and it's cuts.
The district's board of education must start discussing the next school year's budget, and some ways to save money.
"The superintendent, and the whole BOCES District are looking towards shared services. It could be some things like distance learning, where we are all on the same schedule, and we will be able to share courses," said Board of Education President, Mike Button.
Although Superintendent, Bob Reina says shared services between different schools looks promising, it still doesn't mean that the district doesn't face challengers with next year's budget.
"One of the things that you take a look at initially are non-mandated programs, and services. Your extra curricular activities, elective courses, services that are not mandated, and you start with that," said Reina.
Several of the parents at Tuesday night's meeting expressed concerns with what might be cut for next year, but the superintendent says the district won't continue to dwell on the four school district merger proposal.
"The community has spoken loudly on their opinion about the merger, so we're moving on. We have business to conduct, and we have to keep going," said Reina.
The board plans to meet on February 16 to continue to discuss the budget.
