Deputy Kurt Wyman was killed in the line of duty last year during a six-hour standoff in the Town of Augusta.

Today, he is named the 2011 "Deputy of the Year."

Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol submitted the nomination to the New York State Sheriff's Association.

Pictured here is Sheriff Maciol and Lauren, Deputy Wyman's wife, accepting the posthumous award in Albany.

Sheriff Maciol says the award honors Deputy Wyman for the ultimate sacrifice he made in protecting the citizens of Oneida County.
