The topic of hydrofracking is no strange one to Central New York.

A public information session on the controversial issue was held in Barneveld Thursday night so people could get more information on the topic.

John Preston, chairperson of the "Steuben, Trenton, Russia and Remsen" organization says Trenton wants to preserve the character of the area, and he says hydrofracking could threaten that.

The public forum brought in a full house and all different aspects of gas drilling were discussed.

One resident made the drive out from Forestport.

He says he's checked out various hydrofracking forums around Central New York in order to learn as much as possible.

I attend the meeting last night and found it was set up to be one sided on the side of against Hydro Fracking. I was hoping to hear more on both sides but was surprised how one side it was. There were two speakers that STRR brought in that were against Hydro Fracking. And that was it. There was one gentleman there who had some very good points for Hydro Fracking but had a hard time trying to relay his side. They keep cutting him off and trying not to let him talk. While some of us where asking to hear what he had to say. I have to tip my hat to this gentleman because he was not in friendly territory by no means. He was just a person that has firsthand knowledge and wanted to speak. The Town supervisor said they should bring in Chesapeake Gas to present their presentation on the process of Hydro Fracking so people can be more informed before making up their mind. He stated he had been to one and found it very informative. If STRR is going to have this type of public meeting they need to run them with an open mind and from both sides if they want to be one sided they need to hold private forum by invitation only. As part of the public I want to be educated on everything not just one groups views. I can then make a decision on where I stand when I have all the facts. I am Pro Hydro Fracking right now but I sat and listened last night to see if there was anything that would change the way I feel. I have to say Mrs. Kennedy did have a few points I plan to get more information on. But for Mrs. Hance I was not impress by her quotes and graphic she pulled off the internet. I went home last night and found just as much information on the other side on the coin. She didn%u2019t even have the professionalism to turn her phone off not once but twice it went off. Everything she said she would put a spin on it. One question was about open water pits. The answer was simple NY has put in to regulation that will not allow this type of practice in NY. This should have been the end of the answer because in NY it won%u2019t be happening. But she went on and said how bad it is and they use fans and put it in to the air and on and on. But NY all really has addressed these issues and is not allowing this type of practice, this shows me NY has listened and is putting in regulation for such issues. I found her not telling the whole story she would stop short leaving off where it looked bad. If the whole story was presented the people would be able to form a more educated decision.
