A Utica man is charged with harassment after threatening his girlfriend with a knife, according to police.

Reports say 33-year-old Michael Johnson, a level three sex offender, got into an argument with his girlfriend Monday night. Johnson reportedly slapped his girlfriend in the face, pushed her onto the bed and started to choke her.

When the girlfriend went to call police, Johnson allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened to stab her if police came.

Johnson is charged with criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, criminal obstruction of breathing and harassment.
