Masonic Indoor Walk

    The indoor walk began with only six homes participating and over the past five years the walk has more than doubled. And the dollars raised from the event have grown each year.  One resident that suffers from heart disease knows the impact this event can have.

Masonic resident Alice Billias says, "I'm only one but look at all the people they're helping. And not for treating us but for making aware of things we need to do to take care of ourselves better. You know to be aware when there's a problem with our heart and to report it and to tell the doctor different things."

Today's walk raised nearly forty-five hundred dollars, which is eleven hundred more than last year. But, many people say it's more than just about the fundraising.

Director of Community Life Jay Snow says, "Not only are we raising money for heart association, we're raising awareness for heart disease. Folks that live in healthcare facilities can't always participate at the big walk at Utica College so they come here and they do the indoor walk and they're still giving back and they're still contributing."

    Alice says one of the great aspects to this event is that the money raised will benefit future generations as well. She added, "It takes the individuals to want to do something for others, no matter where you are or what community you are in and it's great to know that there are so many people that care about doing things for others and that's what it really is isn't it."
