Despite the hardship the team is facing without Fab Melo -- they managed to come out on top.
Kris Joseph scored 12 points and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead the Orange to victory. Syracuse actually trailed in this game at the half but a strong second half surge led Syracuse to a 72-65 win. The Orange avoids becoming the first ever number one seed to lose to a 16-th seeded team. Scoop Jardine added 11 points and 7 assists and Rakeem Christmas added 6 points and 7 rebounds filling in for the absent Fab Melo. The Orange improved to 32 and two on the season and will play Kansas State Saturday.
While the game was out in Pittsburgh, Syracuse fans still showed their support here in Central New York.
'Cuse' fans headed out to various restaurants and bars like The Cage in Utica, to cheer on their team. Many were confident in the Orange but one topic was on the minds of many fans: Watching their team play without center - Fab Melo. But, now that they have this win, fans can gather again this Saturday to root for the Orange.
