Some area high school students are spending their Spring Break competing for a summer internship at the Rome Research Lab and other various IT companies.
This week, the Air Force Research Lab and the Griffiss Institute are hosting their 4th annual Cyber Challenge competition as one of their STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) initiatives.
Ten teams will have the opportunity to get a new perspective on the field of engineering.
"It's the excitement that these young individuals have learning math and science and to know that there are great working opportunities when graduating college. They don't have to leave the Mohawk valley. There are jobs right here," explained STEM coordinator Helen Rico.
Students will have to design a flight path for an aircraft that detects and locates a moving ground vehicle.
The winners of this year's competition will be announced this Friday.
