Friday morning the soldiers who are set to go to Afghanistan soon, volunteered their time by doing some clean up at Fort Stanwix in Rome.
They were getting the place ready for the tourist season.
Following the cleanup, there was a history lesson and a hands on tour for the participating soldiers.
"We tried to just go back in time and associate what soldiers are doing today with FOBS, the history and the importance and was a FOB was built," said Chief Warrant officer four, Christopher Janis.
The soldiers that were at Fort Stanwix are set to be deployed sometime next year.
