"It's for the patients, this is their home, they're taking their comfort away from them. They've been coming to the hospital off and on, some of them for many years," said Mohawk Valley Psych Center Employee, Patricia Hoch
Currently, Hoch says that 12 patients have been moved to the county they are originally from.
But despite the transfers, a petition has been circulated around the community for several weeks.
On Monday night the first batch was collected to give to Governor Cuomo.
But the possible closings aren't just catching the attention of those directly affected by the center.
When lifelong Utica resident, Diana O'Looney got wind of the news, she decided to join in and do what she could.
"I got some petitions, and I think I've gotten at least 100 names on my petition," said O'Looney.
"Never stop fighting, especially when it's for people that can't speak for themselves," said Hoch.
