Pictures of Utica circling the internet are sparking some controversy in the Renaissance City.

"Timesunion.com," which is an Albany based newspaper, published photographs under the title "Utica Struggles."

There is no doubt that the city is facing some financial issues, but some say the pictures, taken by a Getty Images photographer, display Utica in a slanted way.

Kim Landon, an Associate Journalism Professor at Utica College says it appears the journalist who selected the photos had a view of Utica that they wanted to show for the gallery.

"I would say the journalists who set out to do this had a bias point of view in mind. I don't consider that ethical. It was effective if they were trying to make look Utica like a dump. I could take my camera and replicate every one of those pictures in a different location that would make Utica look like a cozy, beautiful, small city," said Landon.

Along with the photos in the Times Union gallery, there are also pictures on USAToday.com.
