At around 120,000 square feet it's the largest manufacturing facility indium owns. The structure is cubed offering a maximum about of space. And the company has already begun to retrofit the building installing state of the art equipment. Rich Short, Director of Marketing Communications at Indium Corporation says, "Indium Corporation was founded in Utica, New York in 1934, Our headquarters in located in Oneida County, our Central New York facilities are all located in Oneida County. This is our home, this is our home base and this is where we want to stay."

Indium is currently in a two phase process that will result in some jobs being transferred from their Utica facility to the Rome location. But the company says it also plans to add jobs in the future and indium isn't the only one excited about the expansion. Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente says, "The good news is they're expanding right here and so sometimes you take a step forward, a step backwards but then there's another company to come and move us forward a little bit again. And Indium is doing that, so it's positive for us."

Indium Corporation is a premier materials supplier on a global scale. This will be the company's eleventh facility and the facilities are similar. Short added, "All of our manufacturing facilities operate under the principle of lean manufacturing, so all our facilities operate under the concept of copy exact. We have very similar if not precisely exact processes and procedures in place in all of our facilities."
