A total of 79 scholarships were given out at this year's Utica Dollars for Scholars event.
The scholarships are all donations from volunteer foundations.
Over the past 18 years almost $300,000 have been raised and given to deserving students, like Madina Petashvili.
After June 22nd, Medina will officially be the first in her generation to pursue a college education.
"I've seen my parents struggle through their lives, and now have a lot of money......it's very important for me to go through college and go for my dreams," said Madina.
Medina moved to the United States from Russia at the age of 13.
When arriving to America, Madina says college wasn't the first thing that came to mind.
But Madina didn't let anything stop her in high school.
On Thursday night she was one of many students who received a scholarship.
"I've worked hard with school.....it makes it worth working for," she said.
The scholarships range from $3,000 to $100.
