"Jim Boeheim with 880 wins is number three on the all-time list." Despite the success on the court Syracuse Coach Jim Boeheim finds time to give back. It's something he's done for years and the last five have been with the Jim Boeheim golf classic. The golf tournament benefits and number of different charities every year. Boeheim says, "Well what we try to do is help any charity that works with kids so this year we did was grant 32 different organizations money that all work with kids. So 32 this year, 32 last year, we've helped in really just two years we've given out close to a million dollars to kids charities in Central New York."
Giving back may not be something new for coach and his wife but the foundation is new and it's grounded with the focus of making a difference here at home. Board Member David Shiroff says, "There's no better way to do than to sort of than hang your shingle with a foundation that just believes at its core in helping this community."
The Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation benefits a number of different charities and this one holds a special place in coaches heart but not just for the golf. Coach Boeheim added, "I think you have to give back and to give back to kids is the best thing you can do. Coaches vs Cancer is good, we still raise money for that, we do help Make-a-Wish, we help the Boys and Girls clubs, but to be able to give to a lot of different organizations is just a great feeling." Coach hopes this year the event can be as successful as years past
