South Utica's only park is getting a makeover.

Oneida County legislators along with Sheriff Robert Maciol and Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri have been working on an Inmate Educational Work Program that will give inmates helpful work experience, while giving South Utica's park a new and improved look.

"The city and the county sheriff's department are getting together to build a grand entrance at South Utica's only park using county inmates, through a program for horticulture and training. And it's win-win situation. The inmates are learning a trade, and the city is receiving a beautiful, grand entrance in South Utica's only little league baseball field," says Daniel Trevisani, Oneida County Legislator D-19.

The sheriff says the program goes further then just fixing up a park. He says it will also give inmates the opportunity to learn a valuable trade they can use to find a job when they finish their sentence.
