Veterans at the St. Luke's Home got a special visit from baseball players across New York State.

Coaches and players from eight district championship teams are in town this week.

They'll be in Utica to play in the 2012 New York State American Legion Baseball Tournament at Murnane Field.

Players met with veterans and residents to talk about America's pastime.

One veteran tells eyewitness news he has been a baseball fan for life.

"I was always the first baseman because i was left handed. We had our own team. We called ourselves the Schulyer Midgets. We played baseball soccer you name it we were always busy," said Louis Mazurowski, a veteran.

The five day tournament begins Wednesday. The first pitch will be thrown out at 8 p.m.
