Griffiss Going Green

By: Administrator
Updated: August 1, 2012

The company that supplies energy to Griffiss Business and Technology Park is looking to lessen their carbon footprint. The Griffiss Utility Service Corporation broke ground today on a twenty million dollar project. The energy provider is changing its fuel source from natural gas and oil to wood. The company says its move to wood chips is the equivalent of taking twenty-seven cars off the road. Energy costs cut right to a company's bottom line. Officials say by reducing operational costs, Griffiss can attract more businesses to the park.

Griffiss Utility Services Corporation President and CEO Dan Maneen says, "In New York State some of the largest costs associated with doing business are energy and taxes, so we really don't have an awful lot of say in what the taxes are but by lowering energy costs we are promoting the businesses and giving them a benefit."

The project is estimated to save customers 10-20% as compared to typical natural gas prices. The project will be completed in late 2013.
