It's a big day for hunters, fishermen, and outdoor enthusiasts. As of today, hunting, fishing, and trapping licenses, along with deer management permits became available for New Yorkers. One area wildlife biologist says there are some new rules and regulations to look out for this season.
"The biggest change that hunters are gonna see in the southern zone this year is the increased archery season which will now open october 1st. Sportsman that are further downstate may be hunting in units with new antler regulations in place so it's important they look at the hunting guide," says Steve Heerkens, wildlife biologist.
More information about regulation changes is available in The Hunting and Trapping Regulation Guide on DEC's website. And sporting licenses and permits will become valid on October 1st.
