The organization that helps refugees integrate into our community has a new leader. The Mohawk Valley Resource Centerfor Refugees has appointed a new executive director. Shelly Callahantakes over the position. Callahan has been with the refugee center for over six years and held multiple positions. She says the diversity of our community is why she is thrilled to become executive director.
Callahan says, "It's a big responsibility, I love this place and I love the Mohawk Valley. And I think the diversity that happens around here, the tolerance and this place is a part of that but just the local community just caring for the incoming refugees, working with the immigrant communities and working with the local community, I love it, it's my passion."
Shelly Callahan replaces former executive director Peter Vogelaar.
