A string of shootings in our area has law enforcement on alert. Its not
just police, but the community is reacting as well, with fear. Off the
Top tonight, Utica Police say 3 people are injured after a shooting on
Nichols Street in east Utica. It happened just before 12:30 this morning
on the 500 block of Nichols Street. Police say someone fired multiple
rounds from a shotgun. Eyewitness News spoke with area residents and
they say this doesn't surprise them.
"It does scare me knowing that I just had a newborn cousin that live in the area, but I mean the crime rate is the crime rate in Utica, New York. And plus I got 6 children of my own so of course I worry about the safety of the children, not only my family, but in this neighborhood at large anyway," says Marcus Reed, Utica resident.
Now, Utica Police say the three victims were taken to the hospital and their injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
