Tropical storm Isaac has left southern Florida and is headed toward the Northern Gulf Coast.

While residents down south are bracing for Isaac, the American Red Cross in Central New York is deploying man power and services there.

Kelly Brown, the Emergency Services Manager at the Utica Red Cross branch says there is an increased call volume when incidents like Isaac happens.

"We can even use people to answer the phones. This is a good time to get involved with volunteering to go out and assist our local community as our folks are down helping with the bigger things because those are the more experienced people that go," said Brown.

The Red Cross has deployed more than 1,500 workers across the Gulf Coast to help with efforts.
