One area cemetery is now officially being recognized on a state and national level.

The Wright Settlement Cemetery in Rome is now listed on the national register of historic places. One of the cemetery board members says it's an honor to be recognized. She says her 6th great grandfather was one of the first settlers at the Wright's Settlement.

"We are now able to apply for grants. It's hard to keep a cemetery alive today. Our lawn mowing and everything else we have a lot of expenses for that," said Pat Migliori of Wright's Settlement Cemetery.

The Wright Settlement Cemetery was founded back in the late 1700s. Cemetery officials say the Wright family is originally from Connecticut.
