Volunteers give their time every day, but today one organization gave
back to their volunteers. The Greater Utica Division of the American
Heart Association held it's annual awards ceremony to give thanks to
community members and area businesses that help advance the mission of
the AHA. After suffering from 3 strokes, one award recipient says the
AHA hits especially close to home.
"It's become a passion of mine and a personal endeavor to get the awareness out to everybody about strokes, and heart attacks, and cardiac," says Christine Hughes, AHA award recipient.
"All of the things that we do we look at how many people can we impact in a positive way and those are the efforts that we go into," says Dick Mattia, AHA executive director.
Recipients were honored for going above and beyond in helping the AHA improve the health of the Mohawk Valley community. 46 individuals and organizations were recognized at the awards dinner tonight.
