There's an ongoing effort across the nation to bring awareness of the importance of registering to vote before the deadline.

To help with that, the League of Women Voters has organized "National Voter Registration Day."

Here in Central New York, several voter registration drives were held to get the community to register.

People could head to MVCC, The Utica Community Health Center, and Herkimer County Community College.

"It's important that we get as many voters registered as we can. New York State is 47th out of 50 states in voter participation, so we have a lot of ground to make up," said League of Women Voters Treasurer, Nancy Agen.

There is also another opportunity to register tomorrow.
