It's been the talk of the town in the village of Ilion.

"Our school is being punished for a party that was held last Saturday, and not everyone attended it, and other schools did attended it and we're the only ones being punished, and I don't think that's fair," said Ilion High School student, Shelby Dilenbeck.

Ilion Superintendent, Cosimo Tangorra says it was between seven and eight o'clock on Thursday night when he was made aware of a disciplinary issue with the high school involving more than 20 students.

Tangorra says he could not give details on the circumstances, but says along with the varsity football team forfeiting Friday night's game against Frankfort-Schuyler, boys and girls varsity soccer, field hockey, and cheerleading had to forfeit their next games.

And some students say the forfeiting affects other schools like Frankfort Schuyler.

"We ruined their homecoming. I go to BOCES, and they gave us really mean looks this morning and they were literally standing there staring at us as we walked in the building," said Ilion High School student, Brianna Urich.

Tangorra says rumors had been floating around the school relating to social media activity, and the disciplinary matter.

He says the school addressed the students Friday afternoon on the matter, and talked about the effects of social media.

"We wanted to make the students aware that we had heard some rumors, and whether they were true or now, we wanted them to feel confident that they should feel safer there than anywhere else," said Tangorra.

Although some students have mentioned that other schools were involved, Tangorra says that to his knowledge he can not confirm, however he says he has made his colleagues aware of the issue going on at the school.
