Art buffs have a brand new museum to check out this weekend. The Wellin
Museum of Art at Hamilton College is opening up tomorrow. It consists of
art from a range of cultures and historical periods. The staff says the
museum is designed to be a teaching tool and laboratory for Hamilton
students, but also an attraction for the entire community.
"People will see a great mixture of contemporary arts. We'll serve the entire academic community, but also, this is envisioned almost like a laboratory space; so we're challenging traditions notions of display and types of materials that should be in art museums," says Susanna White, associate director.
The Wellin Museum's grand opening, again, is tomorrow. An opening reception is planned for 5pm. All activities, including guided tours, are free and open to the public.
