One area organization is stressing the importance of higher education.

Several colleges along with The Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities hosted the Mohawk Valley Independent Higher Education Forum on Tuesday at Utica college.

The forum was a chance to network and discuss different ideas and opportunities for the community.

"It's to help people understand how higher education can help them in the multitude of ways that can help them within the community. Whether is providing them services for small businesses who want to start a company and need some help understanding how to do that, or entrepreneurs," said Laura Anglin, CLCU President.

Around 150 people attended the forum.
