The Oneida County Sheriff's Office will soon be able to expand one of its programs thanks to one area organization.

The Sheriff's Office received a grant from the community foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties to provide wristbands to locate a missing or wandering person.

This is part of Project Lifesaver designed to help track people with Alzheimer's disease, Down syndrome or autism who wander from home and may get lost.

"It's been used several times. And luckily in most cases the people haven't wandered that far so they were quickly located. It's a phenomenal service and another way to keep our people safe," said Sheriff Maciol.

The grant will allow the sheriff's office to buy sixteen more wristbands and get people off the waiting list.

Sheriff Maciol says Oneida County is one of the few across the nation that provides this service.
