But a few years ago, Colp's medals were just a memory.
"I had gotten blown out of my apartment where I was living and all my uniforms and all my medals and everything else I received for being in the military had gotten burnt up," said Colp.
After losing the medals and other military items in a fire, Colp along with his daughter tried everything they could to get them back.
This was the second time Colp had lost his medals, and after hearing his story, Congressman Richard Hanna decided to help out and buy Colp a new set.
"These meals mean a great deal to somebody, so it's one of the privileges of this office to be able to help somebody whose served," said Hanna.
The Congressman presented them to Colp on Friday afternoon, and after years of separation from his medals, Colp says he couldn't be more thankful.
"I have more vibes coming out of that left arm of mine because I'm shaking. I don't know if I'm going to start crying, but I am very proud just to hold them, and say they belong to me," he said.
