One area organization hosted a blood drive today in honor of Veteran's Day. The Masonic Care Community encouraged people to roll up their sleeves and give blood Monday afternoon.

The operational supervisor of the American Red Cross says they've seen an increase in people donating, especially after Hurricane Sandy. The Red Cross says they lost thousands of units due to the superstorm.

"It's just one of those things it's a reminder when you have a national disaster how important it is to come out and donate because the actual blood drives get canceled and people can't make it out. So, inventory goes way down," said Trent Macbain, the Red Cross Operational Supervisor.

The Red Cross says if everybody donated once or twice a year, the organization wouldn't have blood shortages.

If you would like to donate, you can call 1-800-Red Cross.
