Hart's Hill Elementary students raising awareness for recycling year-round

Fourth grader, Michael Peterson knows how important it is to recycle.
So he went about his own unique way to get the word out by creating a recycle rap.
"I wrote that song because I wanted to explain what you could recycle with and how you could recycle it," said Michael.
Thursday marks the annual America Recycles Day, but Michael along with others at Hart's Hill Elementary School in Whitesboro have been making the effort to go green since the beginning of the school year.
"We're trying to instill upon the kids that it's not just this period of time that we're recycling, it's a lifelong lesson that's important for their environment," said Hart's Hill Elementary Principal, Lisa Putnam.
Along with using their musical talents, the school also has it's own "Green Team."
The team meets after school once or twice a month and picks up recyclables throughout the campus.
"It's really cool because you get to be able to be with your friends while you're doing something for the earth and helping the environment," said Michael.
And no matter what method they use to spread awareness, these students are happy to be making a difference.
"When people see it they know they can recycle so it encourages them to recycle and it's a fun way to get the message out," said student, Mark Polk.
Principal Putnam says she hopes all the students take their recycling efforts home and continue to raise awareness outside of school.
