Cyber Monday Breaks Records Nationwide.. But It's Not As Popular In CNY

Say goodbye to Black Friday and hello to Cyber Monday. 7 years ago,
Cyber Monday began as the online counter-part to Black Friday. It's a
day when internet retailers give big discounts, free shipping and other
promotions to jump start the holiday season.
Eyewitness News talks with mall shoppers and electronic store workers to learn more about Cyber Monday trends in our area, and they may surprise you.
"I've never heard of Cyber Monday," says Sangertown Square Mall shopper.
"I don't know what it consists of, i have no idea what it is," says Sangertown Square Mall shopper.
Several shoppers say they've never heard of Cyber Monday, and for those who have, some say they have no interest in participating.
"I like to come out and actually get my stuff in person. It's easier to see what it looks like and see the actual right size, not just on a computer screen," says Jared Allen, Sangertown Square Mall shopper.
"I know what's online, I know the prices are comparable. So I'd rather get what I want today and have to not wait. Some of the larger electronics take longer then a couple days and I can pick it up today in the store," says Evan Hanna, Big Apple Music shopper.
The Better Business Bureau says Cyber Monday also means more hackers and scammers are on the prowl, so if you're online shopping, make sure you see the BBB seal of approval before making your purchase.
"Online, anything can be, you don't know what's true or what's not," says Allen.
"There's a lot of scammers, you don't really know who you're dealing with. I think you're better off to come to a store," says Judy Kehl, Big Apple Music shopper.
Regardless, it's estimated that this year's Cyber Monday will be the biggest online shopping day of the year, but one area electronic store whose not participating says this won't hurt their business.
"We gain a fair amount of business out of it. People that buy from online, let's say a little home theatre system, and don't know how to hook it up, they'll call us and we'll do the installation. It looks good online, the price looks good, they get home, and they can't figure it out," says Peter Bolos, Big Apple Music owner.
And sometimes the price isn't always right.
"There's a perception that prices are always lower and it's just not that way. This Panasonic TV behind me, we're selling it for $569 dollars, they cost $579 dollars on Amazon," says Bolos.
Still, research from Comscore says Americans are expected to spend $1.5 billion dollars today.
