Broadway and theatre fans have something to smile about here at home. Flashdance - The Musical will be hitting the Stanley stage next week. But the cast and crew has been staying in Utica since early December.

Eyewitness News reporter Rachel Polansky joins us live from the Stanley with a behind-the-scenes look or a rare opportunity.

"Flashdance - The Musical is premiering here in Utica so Utica audiences will be the very first people ever to see this brand new Broadway-bound musical Flashdance,"  says Dani Davis, Flashdance executive producer.

"This is such an opportunity for this location that probably you would have to wait years to get," says John Fehlner, Broadway Theatre League executive director.

So how did the Stanley do it? John Fehlner says Utica is serving as the tech city for the production. That means...

"The entire show is being built from square 1 right here in Utica," says Fehlner.

And a tech city marks the first time the cast, crew, and set for a Broadway production are all together in 1 city.

"We are staying at a nearby hotel, eating in restaurants around the Stanley Theatre every single meal, and shopping for all of our supplies in local businesses," says Davis.

The cast and crew has been staying in Utica since early December. And Fehlner says the the city of Utica will notice that revenue.

"You've got almost 100 people to live here for 3 weeks. It is a $1.2 to $1.5 million dollar economic impact for the area," says Fehlner.

But more than that..

"It's an exciting and beautiful and hot production," says Davis.

"It's very colorful, it's very musical and it's just plain fun to see the show," says Fehlner.

Eyewitness News reporter Rachel Polansky speaks with Matthew Hydzik, the lead male actor of the show. Flashdance will make its debut at the Stanley Theatre on December 28th and 29th.

Tickets are still available and range from $36.50 to $61.50 and can be purchased by calling Broadway Theatre League at (315) 724-7196 or by visiting www.BroadwayUtica.com
