The New Hartford American Legion Post hosted a ceremony this afternoon to remember the victims of 9/11.

Those who were at the ceremony Sunday, could remember the day like it was yesterday.

"We just all sat glued to the T.V. and we all had the same reaction. This can't be happening, something like this doesn't happen in The United States," said Peggie Williams, who attended the memorial.

Cheryl Bowen also has a vivid memory of the event.

"I kept hearing things like "WOW, how cool, look at that big airplane, look at all the smoke" We didn't realize that our four and five year old's were watching a plane crash into the Twin Towers," said Bowen.

Although it's been ten years since the attacks on 9/11, people like Peggie Williams and Cheryl Bowen still know where they were that day.

The community gathered at The New Hartford American Legion Post 1376 Sunday afternoon to remember and honor those victims from September 11th.

The memorial touched on how the event of the attacks affect those children in school that day, along with sending a special message.

Post Commander, Fredrick Williams, says the event awakened the people and children of this country to know just how fragile freedom is.

Peggie Williams felt her 3rd grade students walked away with a very important understanding of their country on that day.

"Now the children realize what United means in United States, and I think that really hit home with so many of us," said Peggy Williams.

Bowen says she does not want anyone to forget that there is always terror out there and that we cannot be complaisant and think that no one will ever hurt us.

Overall, the memorial brought a wonderful sense of unity and it is certainly a day that we will never forget.
