It's been in the planning for years.

Now, Hamilton College has kicked off a bicentennial weekend.

Coming all the way from Florida, Hamilton College Student, Whitney Bachow is excited to show her support for the bicentennial weekend on campus.

"It's important for us, I think, to make a point to recognized that this is a very important year being the bicentennial year for the college. There's been a lot of history, and it's really changed over the years," said Bachow.

September 22nd kicks off the weekend celebration for the schools 200th anniversary.

The bicentennial year runs through 2011 and 2012.

"This is the beginning of it, and it's very big. We're going to have 3,000 visitors to the campus. We're going to have a number of really interesting events take place," said Co-Chair of the Bicentennial Week Committee.

Joe coons, a sophomore at Hamilton College is already looking forward to the upcoming activities.

"I'm excited to go to a few of the events but I'm mostly excited to see all the alumni I know and I'm excited to talk to some of the old alumni," said Coons.

"I think its just gonna be really fun because the college is not normally this packed, and I'm sure it's going to be flooded with people who are all really excited about Hamilton, " said Bachow.

Hands on Hamilton History is one of the events beginning Thursday morning.

"We'll be bringing out objects from the college archives kind of chronologically to help people learn about the history of the college," said Christian Goodwillie, Director of Special Collections.

This particular event will be held on the fourth Thursday of every month throughout the bicentennial year.

The September exhibit features artifacts from Samuel Kirkland.

Some weekend events include a world class jazz concert and fireworks.
