The Ukrainian Catholic Church in Utica has started its Pierogi and Cabbage roll sale. They'll be selling the food every Friday through the holidays. Church Committee Member Taras Zenczak says the rolls and pierogies are a Slavic food. They're special for the Ukrainian, Polish, and Czech communities, among others. He says the food has been received well in the Utica community and makes those of Slavic descent feel more at home. Members of the church who make the food every week say there are two things to keep in mind when cooking the tasty treats. For the cabbage rolls, it's important to have the perfect combination of rice, ground beef, and seasoning for the filling. And if the dough isn't just right for the pierogies, then the whole thing will be a mess.
