The New York State Department of Transportation held a public meeting in Herkimer Monday evening regarding the repair of the bridge on Route 922B in Herkimer County. The bridge runs over the Erie Canal in the Town of German Flatts and the Village of Herkimer. The project will include a replacement of the railing, removal of any deteriorated concrete, among other adjustments.
Steve Emrich of the DOT says right now the bridges condition rating indicates minor deterioration, but after the repairs drivers will see a big difference.
Emrich says the bridge will be closed for approximately 2 months with a 3 mile detour on Route 5S, Route 28, and Route 5. He says construction is tentatively set to begin in June and continue through October 2012.
