Election Day Recap

Election Day is less than a month away as this year's election falls on November 8th.

Some voters seem to have the same issues in both Utica and Rome, which include concerns about budget cuts and layoffs.

This November, voters in the city of Rome will elect a new mayor or re-elect current Mayor Jim Brown.

But, this isn't incumbent Brown's first time running against Republican candidate Joe Fusco.

Mayor Brown beat Fusco eight years ago. None the less, 25-year-old Tiffany Sumner says some voters are expecting more hiring.

"More police control and stop the layoff of the jobs. There are certain budgets you have to live by, but all those jobs where are they going to go," explained Rome Resident Tiffany Sumner.

The Utica mayoral race consists of five candidates, but some voters say that may be too many people to keep up with.

"I barely know all five myself," said Utica Resident Tony Myers.

Myers plans on voting this November. He says he expects the next mayor to be good at budgeting.

"Out of the next mayor there needs to be someone who has a good financial head on their shoulders. Someone who can trim the budget, yet still maintain a level of service to have things going on in the city," said Myers.

He says the city needs somebody who has a vision for the future of Utica that has a bold plan.

Other voters say their next leaders need to keep taxes low and attract more businesses to the area.
