A disaster recovery center will be opening this week in Whitesboro.

Starting Thursday, October 13, FEMA will be opening a recovery center at the Whitesboro Fire Department.

It will help provide assistance for those who were affected by Tropical Storm Lee.

Utica Mayor, David Roefaro, Whitesboro Mayor, Brenda Gilberti, and representatives from The Disaster Recovery Center will be there to help offer assistance.

Roefaro says the center will be helping with guidance on how to apply for FEMA funds.

He also says this will be a way to help the victims fill out the forms and receive reimbursement for their losses and expenses.

"I think it's a tremendous stride that they're making to help these residents. This will be very very effective, it will help many people who otherwise really don't have the insurance or the funds to cover the extensive damage that they've received, " said Roefaro.

The center will be up and running until Thursday, October 27.

Mayor Roefaro strongly suggests people register before coming on Thursday.
