The distribution center is closing and moving to a location in Syracuse. Besides the inconvenience it will cause many people, thirty-two jobs could be lost. The US postal service says the closure will have a first year savings of over two million dollars. But Utica Mayor David Roefaro disagrees; he says because of all the back and forth driving to Syracuse it would not save money. Customers going in and out of the distribution center tonight were disappointed to hear the news. "They shouldn't close because a lot of people don't know how to use a computer and a lot of people still write, I still write, my kids still write different people so they shouldn't close. I'm all for saving money but if they can do five days a week that would be good too." "It would be bad for me because I have my PO box here, its conveinent its right next to my work and a lot of workers would be out of work. It's a catch 22 you got to do both, you've got to save jobs which boost our economy but you also have to help our budget which is dire need here in New York State." Mayor Roefaro says the federal government is making a mistake. He says they are closing one of the most efficiently run postal services in the New York State. He also says the USPS should have consolidated services to Utica... not to Syracuse.
